Meet the neighbours

One of the best things about living here is that we have no immediate next-door neighbours. Our street zig-zags and our house is on the zig, if that makes any sense.
Across the street is a wall of greenery (or red-and-purplery when the bougainvilleas are in full flower) and behind us is an empty block with a huge jacaranda tree, beautiful in spring:

Next to that is a horse paddock, home to Wiz and Tuppence. They go off somewhere during the day, presumably to carry gleefully squealing children around in circles, but they return every evening and make a beeline to the corner of our yard when they hear the sound of carrot banging against metal fence. Wiz has proven to be by far the pushier of the two (he's the one on the right):

Yesterday, they had two new arrivals, Shetland ponies called Buddy and Biscuit. Buddy is so-named, Mick was warned, because he's friendly to the point of nibbling anything within reach, including fingers:

Biscuit is even smaller and quite possibly the cutest animal I have ever seen:

Without her little coat on she's a gorgeous palomino pattern and makes me wish I were five years old again so I could ride her.
Wiz and Tuppence aren't at all impressed that their turf has been invaded and seem to enjoy chasing them around the enclosure, like schoolyard tormentors.

Mick and I are now on permanent bully-watch.
